Sustainability Projects

A series of projects to help the planet is gathering pace at school.

Sustainability Co-oordinator Jon Rees and the Eco Warriors are driving new initiatives aimed at helping to reduce our carbon footprint and encouraging us to lead more balanced, sustainable lives.

A great deal of work is being focused on the canteen, including the removal of plastic cutlery, new vegetarian options, and the reduction of food waste.

The Eco Warriors attended the Sustainable School Food Summit, to learn more about the sustainability challenges associated with the food system, and what further improvements can be made at school.

As part of the summit, the students took part in a competition to bust some common myths about the cost and popularity of sustainable food in schools.

Three celebrity chefs were invited to create a sustainable dish suitable for inclusion in a school lunch menu and to serve the dish to attendees at the conference. All three dishes were deemed worthy of school menus and we hope to see them introduced in the future.

Meanwhile, to mark last week’s Earth Day, the Eco Warriors have compiled a series of resources to help provide a snapshot of key ecological issues. These have been shared with students to remind them how critical it is that we work together to try to find ways to live more sustainably.
