SENCo Visit
ICHK continues to attract visitors who want to learn more about our unique approaches to education.
A team of trainee Special Educational Needs Coordinators from The University of Hong Kong visited school.
The teachers are studying the SENCo course at HKU, and the visit was organised for them to learn about our school’s inclusive practices.
They were introduced to our whole-school approach to inclusion, our diverse learning pathways and they heard how learning support operates at ICHK. They were also able to observe some of our classes in action.
The visitors were warmly welcomed by Head of School Sean McDermott, who provided insights into our innovative curricula and the values that underpin our school. Deputy Head of School Kathryn Lung spoke about ICHK’s journey towards inclusion. Deputy Head of School Flora Lai spoke about our award winning Curriculum X programme, and the unique 5+1 pastoral model, which lies at the heart of learning innovation, and helps to create the conditions in which students can thrive.
Head of Learning Support Sammi Chan and SEN teacher Sydney Li spoke about inclusion, learning Support and the +1 Centre, which was founded to help re-imagine inclusion for young people with additional needs, proving that with the right environment, embedded in the right culture, every student can flourish in ways that make a difference and matter.
Our SRC members were wonderful ambassadors and acted as tour leaders, allowing our visitors to experience learning in action.
HKU Lecturer Kit Chan was impressed by the work we are doing in the SEN and neurodiversity field. She spoke highly of our inclusive approach, the strength of our Learning Support team, the thoughtful differentiation we provide, and the overall positive atmosphere we create for students with diverse needs.
We have seen a rapid increase in interest in our innovations, programmes and curricula in recent years, and we now regularly present at education conferences and summits, host workshops and meet with educators who are keen to learn about our approaches.
We are delighted to continue to share learning and innovations from ICHK and it was a pleasure to showcase our school and the caring and supportive learning environment we have created.
