Rite of Passage Expedition

A rite of passage has been marked by Year 10 students.

They completed a hiking expedition as part of a symbolic journey into the upper school.

Working in small groups, students planned meals, packed equipment and undertook a series of team challenges at Brides Pool before embarking on a hike and overnight camp at the Chung Pui campsite.

After cooking breakfast and taking the camp down, they hiked back to school along the Wilson Trail.

The expedition was planned by our outdoor educators and required students to collaborate, show leadership, initiative, problem solving and communication skills, good humour and perseverance – all the characteristics we aim to develop at ICHK.

It also represented a chance for them to look back over the start of Year 10, spend time with peers and amend personal goals for the future, as they transition into young adults.

As a school, we believe in the transformative power and essential hallmarks of rites of passage and introduce them to students to meaningfully mark turning points in their lives; supporting them as they make the journey from childhood to adulthood.

This event allowed our students to reflect on their experiences, celebrate achievements, and transition with the right mindset into the next chapter of their ICHK story.
