ICHK Book Week Returns
A fantastic celebration of books and reading has been held at school.
Students have enjoyed inspiring talks from writers, workshops, quizzes, reading promotions, a book fair and dress down day, as part of the third annual ICHK Book Week.
Local and international authors have been visiting school, to share their expertise and advice with our students.
Children’s author Deborah Abela ran an interactive talk, aimed at helping students develop their own engaging stories, leaving them excited about books, reading and writing.
Acclaimed picture-book creator J H Low inspired students about the art of picture-book making, sharing his own works and the creative process behind them.
Naz Kutub, who teaches Creative Writing at UCLA, ran workshops to help students find their voice as a writer.
Author and teacher of professional writing, Kern Carter, gave a talk about his journey to landing multiple books deals and ran a workshop exploring how writing and storytelling has directly impacted culture and shifted the way groups of people think.
Sylvia Yu Friedman ran an inspiring presentation about her adventures as a journalist, filmmaker, author and philanthropy consultant.
Award-winning Canadian illustrator Josie Bisaillon gave a presentation about her mixed media technique, before working with students on their own works of art.
A ‘Guess the book in the jar’ competition has been running in the library as well as many literature quizzes held during tutor times.
A very successful book fair was organised, and the week culminated with a dress down day, with students and staff dressing as characters from their favourite books.
The celebration of books and reading was organised by the English Department, in collaboration with the Library. It has been wonderful to see students engaged in the world of books, and developing their lifelong love of reading and learning.
