Our Local Shoreline

The stunning surroundings of our school have been inspiring Literature students.

Year 9 students of English are preparing for their IGCSE courses by reading poetry on a range of themes including environmentalism.

During a walk to the nearby shoreline and local temple, they were able to explore the themes, ideas and setting of Boey Kim Cheng's ‘Ode to Wordsworth’, and make links to Gillian Clarke's ‘Lament’.

The visit also allowed them to reflect on the beauty of the area, after their recent plastic clean up.

The students were delighted to spot new mangrove shoots growing on the newly cleaned shoreline.

The Year 9s collected, sorted and disposed of more than 1,000 pieces of plastic from the area last month.

Their work has helped to restore beautiful views of nature, providing a nice place of observance, and will hopefully lead to an increase in returning wildlife as a result.
