Library Developments

Exciting things are happening in the new look school library.

A range of new initiatives and activities to promote reading is being led by school librarian Claire Palmer.

It follows a complete refurbishment of the library during the Christmas holidays. Along with decoration, new furniture has been added and a large number of new books for all age groups.

This week the first in a series of monthly reading challenges was launched. The theme is to ‘read one book with a sprinkle of magic’. Displays have been created in the library with book recommendations and mini reviews from students.

Posters have been created featuring ‘magical’ book recommendations including works by C S Lewis, Roald Dahl, J K Rowling, Rick Riordan and Victoria Aveyard.

The reading challenge is part of a drive to transform the library into a central hub of learning at school.

Students are being encouraged to delve into new books, enjoy different literary genres, discover new authors and gain different perspectives on the world in the process.

We hope that all students will use some of their time to visit the library and explore the world of literature. It is here that they will be introduced to new ideas and cultures, keeping their minds engaged and agile, helping to broaden their attitudes and mindsets, developing greater thinking skills, and a lifelong love of reading and learning.
