Ian Cheng
What did you most enjoy about your time at ICHK?
I enjoyed the amount of extra-curriculars available for one to choose. In particular, I enjoyed the various Deep Learning excursions and MUN, especially the former as this is a unique part of the school curriculum.
How do you feel that teachers at ICHK prepared you for life after school?
Many teachers have provided me guidance on how to navigate difficulties, especially during IB2 as pressure ramped up due to the intense amount of coursework, exams and homework due at the same time. I would specifically like to thank Ms Hayes, Ms Afonso, Mr Clarke, Ms Loges and Christy for their valuable support to me over my IB years that I will forever cherish.
How do you think that ICHK differs from other schools?
While almost all schools in Hong Kong are situated in dense urban centres, ICHK's location in rural Sha Tau Kok allows it to connect with nature better and also provide a learning space with considerably less noise and air pollution.
What were the key skills that you learnt at ICHK?
ICHK's emphasis on community and teamwork have allowed me to further develop skills in relation to these. For example, compared to myself in Year 7, I have been a better teammate and a leader at the same time, whilst my communication skills with others have significantly improved.
Any significant moments / highlights / achievements in your life that you may like to share, and do you think your time at ICHK helped you prepare for them?
The Deep Learning + trip to Berlin 2023 - this was my first time stepping in mainland Europe and it was also one of my most memorable trips. Since I have been (and still am) a curious history student, the classes I've taken have prepared me with considerable amounts of knowledge to better understand the history of this great city, as it unfolds in front of my own eyes.
