What did you most enjoy about your time at ICHK?

There’s a lot to say about what I loved about ICHK, but looking back now, I value the connections and friendships I made. ICHK’s “can do” attitude, allowed me to branch out and participate in multiple activities outside of the classroom, which formed the foundation for the closest and most genuine relationships I have now.

How do you feel that teachers at ICHK prepared you for life after school?

ICHK has always had a progressive philosophy. You are treated like an adult the moment you walk through the door in Year 7. It makes you hold yourself accountable from day one, which I believe, is the hardest transition from a school environment to the “real world”. Nobody is going to push you except yourself. Especially as someone who didn’t go to university, I was immediately surrounded by people of all ages, all backgrounds, all at different stages of life. You get treated the same regardless. Then transitioning from a flight student, to a flight instructor, where I was teaching people from my own age to people in their 60s, ICHK’s mentorship allowed me to maintain my confidence, rely on my education and professionalism; and, be my own biggest advocate.

How do you think that ICHK differs from other schools?

It is said, and that is because it’s true, but academic results are not the be-all-and-end-all at ICHK. ICHK strives to develop a well-rounded individual who will not only survive what the world throws at them, but thrive. Academic results, are, of course, extremely important and shouldn't be neglected as they provide the first building block to the future that you want to create, but I can promise that as soon as you leave secondary school, nobody will ever ask you what grades you achieved, rather people care about what kind of person you are, how you show up for yourself and others, and how you prioritise your life. I believe this is something that is at the very core of ICHK - “work hard and be nice”.

What were the key skills that you learnt at ICHK?

Task management, communication, managing stress and a work-life balance.

Any significant moments / highlights / achievements in your life that you may like to share, and do you think your time at ICHK helped you prepare for them?

I have two that stand out apart from being hired at my dream airline flying the “Queen of the Skies”.

1. Being the youngest flight instructor and the only female Multi-engine instructor at the flight school I worked for.

2. Teaching my brother his first landing.

ICHK taught me to take pride when your hard work presents you with an accomplishment, but not to let the effort diminish there.  Every day is a new day with new challenges, especially in aviation, but that also always presents a new opportunity for growth and learning.
