Students have begun training for their upcoming adventure to China.

A group will be visiting the Tea Horse Road in Yunnan during Deep Learning + Week. They will be hiking the arduous terrain of the Tiger Leaping Gorge, exploring locations which were part of the ancient trade route and connected the people of Southwest China for nearly 1,000 years.

A preparation session was held, which included trip research, a trek and a Yunnan-style meal in Tai Po.

The training allowed expectations to be set and equipment to be tested. It was also aimed at helping students to connect as a team, experience day hiking in challenging terrain, and to prepare mentally and physically for the trip.

Along the way, they learned a number of valuable lessons, including how to manage blisters, and the importance of staying hydrated.

Most importantly, the experience helped them to develop confidence, showing that with teamwork and some training, they will be well-prepared for their adventure to the Middle Kingdom.
