China Exchange 2026

Another successful China exchange programme has been completed.

A group of students visited Nengren Middle School in Jiangsu province, taking part in a packed programme of lessons, activities and excursions.

Their cultural experience was enriched through visits to Suzhou and Nanjing, where they discovered the rich history and heritage of these fascinating cities, and took part in unique, hands-on activities.

Opportunities such as this are among the most valuable experiences we can offer our young people. The exchange supports and enriches their study of the Chinese language, but its impact goes far beyond language learning. Being immersed in a different culture encourages students to be curious, open-minded and willing to see the world from a different perspective.

Living with host families is particularly special. It gives our students an insight into everyday life in China that simply cannot be gained from a textbook or a classroom. They are navigating new routines, communicating in another language, trying unfamiliar foods, experiencing different traditions and, most importantly, forming friendships with young people from another country.

These experiences also ask a great deal of our students. They are learning to be independent, adaptable and resilient. They are finding the confidence to communicate, to try something new even when it feels unfamiliar, and to cope with being away from home and outside their usual routines. These are important life skills that will stay with them long after the exchange has finished.

What makes this partnership so valuable is the opportunity it gives our students to broaden their horizons. They are not simply visiting another country; they are experiencing it, learning from it and building connections with people and a culture that may previously have felt very distant.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students embraced this opportunity. They returned to school with wonderful memories and new friendships, but also with greater confidence in themselves, a deeper understanding of the world around them and the resilience that comes from discovering that they are capable of far more than they may have imagined.
