Transitions Workshop

A special workshop was staged for Year 6 students , as part of a support programme as they prepare for secondary school.

ICHK Secondary’s well-being educator and counsellor Christy Tsui, Head of Year 7 Ben Blain and Deputy Head of Year 7 Nelly Loi-Fong, joined counsellor Kate Kam for the event.

The aim was to reassure the students as they complete their primary education, and help to prepare them for the next step in their educational journeys.

The transition from primary to secondary school is a critical time that is considered to be challenging for students, and generally requires them to move from a familiar school environment to a larger educational setting. It also means that they need to establish new friendships at a time when peer acceptance is extremely important.

During the workshop, students joined together in small groups on a series of fun games and activities, all focused on teamwork, communication and confidence.

The children were encouraged to talk about their feelings about the move to Year 7, and they learned about resilience, and the importance of building and maintaining connections.

The event helped to prepare them for ICHK’s special Year 7 Transitions course.
