The Four Pillars of Health

At ICHK, we place great importance on the well-being of our students. Positive Psychology serves as the foundation of our approach to learning and teaching, creating an environment and holistic curriculum that foster the crucial connection between emotional well-being and academic success.

In our ongoing commitment to consolidate ourselves further as a centre of care, prioritise well-being and enhance its integration into the Human Technologies curriculum, we are excited to introduce the "Four Pillars of Health" initiative for students in Years 7-11. This programme focuses on the significance of sleep, exercise, diet, and mindfulness, and draws inspiration from Dr. Rangan Chatterjee's podcast, Feel Better Live More. These insightful episodes have influenced our curriculum content and are also featured in many of our Curated Learning Lists, which supplement each of our units and offer additional resources for our students to explore.

Our Human Technologies Venn Diagram serves as a valuable tool, categorising five key types of technologies, placing the remaining four – cognitive, material, social and spiritual – within the enveloping circle of the fifth, with the psycho-somatic aspect, promoting harmony between body & mind. Through this framework, students will be introduced to a diverse range of technologies across various domains in each unit, helping them navigate the “Four Pillars” and progress towards their aspirational Self2.

As always, we encourage students to be critical users of the technologies they draw on, to use them thoughtfully, and to consider the ethical implications of their choices, understanding that what works for one individual may not be suitable for another. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

We look forward to sharing students' insights in relation to the Four Pillars and resources for parents.
