Sustainability Pledges

Environmental pledges have been made by Year 7 students, in a bid to inspire green action across the school.

Students have made a series of commitments to live more sustainably.

These include turning off lights, using less water, recycling more, not using single use plastics and reducing the use of air conditioners.

The students made the pledges to demonstrate their support for Earth Day, and were filmed to encourage their peers to also take action.

They joined people around the world showing their support for environmental protection.

Sustainability Coordinator Jon Rees and the ICHK Eco Warriors are leading a series of initiatives aimed at helping us to lead more balanced, sustainable lives.

Another focus has been to encourage students to use less water, and ensure taps are not left running. Students are being urged to be mindful of our finite resources.

As part of efforts to increase recycling, a student Eco Warriors Recycling Officer has been appointed for the year ahead.

At ICHK, the aim is for students to have the energy and motivation to explore the world around them and to be aware of the lifestyle changes they might make to impact the planet more positively. Every little bit helps and concrete action also prompts conceptual change.

Next month we will be joining The Alliance of Sustainable Schools, a network of schools within Hong Kong and globally, that seeks more sustainable solutions in how they operate.

ICHK will sign the TASS Charter, and in doing so, pledge to develop practices that enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to become sustainability stewards.
