Students Achieve World Rugby Honours

Two ICHK students are celebrating world rugby success.

Kelsie Bouttle and Clare Coey were part of the winning team at the inaugural Asia Rugby U18 Girls Sevens Championship in Dubai.

Teams from all over Asia including Kazakhstan, UAE and Sri Lanka competed in the major international event.

Hong Kong beat Kazakhstan 12-5 in a tense final played before large crowds at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Dubai tournament.

Kelsie and Clare are members of the Hong Kong U18s Women’s Sevens team.

Kelsie, who is part of the Hong Kong Sports Institute’s Rugby Development Programme, was given the honour of acting as the team’s vice captain.

Rugby is a key strength at ICHK and we have achieved huge success in the sport. As well as exposure to competition, our rugby programme helps develop leadership skills, as students act as coaches and mentors. They take on responsibility for training and performance and captains communicate their vision, motivate and pass on their skills and experience. Most importantly, our programme help our students develop a sense of fair play and the pride that is associated with playing at a very high level.

The whole ICHK community congratulates Kelsie, Clare and the Hong Kong team on an impressive, undefeated showing, which led to victory in the championships.
