Spanish Excursion
Students of Spanish enjoyed a wonderful language and culture day in Lammas.
The special excursion was organised to enrich their studies about Hogueras de San Juan (St. John’s bonfires).
Under the guidance of their Spanish teachers and outdoor educators, the students enjoyed a series of language challenges and games related to the fiesta.
The San Juan bonfires see people write down their burdens and the negativities they wish to get rid of and throw their papers into the fire.
Bonfires were safely crafted by our Outdoor Education team, and students wrote papers before throwing their “wishes” into the fire, in line with the tradition.
They then enjoyed a Spanish feast at the Dale Candela restaurant, with Chef Carlos cooking up a variety of authentic tapas including Jamón ibérico, queso manchego, croquetas, chorizo, ensaladilla, tortilla de patatas, and a giant paella.
The excursion was planned ahead of the official St John’s day, and Lammas was chosen because of its strong Hispanic connections.
It led to huge steps forward in learning for the students and we thank all the staff who supported, including the restaurant staff who created a true Spanish beach tapas experience for the students.
