Shanghai Model United Nations

Congratulations to the ICHK students who acted as delegates at the Shanghai Model United Nations.

A team of nine students competed in a challenging three days of debate organised by Concordia International School Shanghai.

MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations aimed at raising awareness of global affairs with young people. Students learn about international relations, diplomacy, and how the UN works.

During the conference, student delegates acted as UN representatives of a given country. They fearlessly engaged in formal debates, delivered compelling speeches, and adeptly conveyed their country's positions on the topics under discussion.

They were accompanied by teachers Alex Hall and Christina Hayes who said they were hugely impressed by the students' grit and determination as they debated complex global issues, showcased their ability to listen to different perspectives and proposed innovative solutions.

For most of the students this was their first ever conference. Nerves were running high on the first day, however as the opening speeches proceeded and blocs were formed in their committees, the students threw themselves into the challenge of negotiating, creating resolutions and passing them. In the lead-up to the conference, the students dedicated countless hours to researching the countries they were tasked with representing, receiving invaluable support from seasoned MUN delegates.

This immersive experience afforded our students abundant opportunities to collaborate with fellow delegates, forge alliances, and navigate the intricacies of resolution negotiation, all while striving towards consensus.

They left the conference with a sense of accomplishment, heightened confidence, and newly cultivated friendships spanning the globe.
