International College Hong Kong

Sammi Chan

Assistant Head of Learning Support and Teacher of Psychology

Why did you want to become a teacher?

When I first came back to Hong Kong, I worked in a mainstream school in the SEN department. I feel like there are not many resources for students with diverse needs in Hong Kong. I really hope that I can do something for the kids and their families in my career.

What is your first memory from school?

I went to a local kindergarten in Kwun Tong. Every day I needed to get a school bus and I always forgot my red school bag!

What makes a ‘good day’ at school?

My students are learning and happy.

What are your “trapped on a desert island” books or movies?

Where Rainbow Ends- Ceceila Ahern

What is the hardest thing about being a teacher?

Not enough time!

What inspires you?

My colleagues and my students. One of the best things about being a SEN teacher is you get to walk in different classes every day. I am learning not merely the subject knowledge but also getting teaching ideas from all my colleagues. My students are all unique and they inspire me to try out different strategies.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Helping my students to achieve their goals.
