Rite of Passage

A wonderful rite of passage has been marked by Year 6 students.

They completed a 20km hike from primary to secondary, camping overnight, before being applauded into the afternoon assembly at our secondary school.

It was a symbolic journey, designed to build their resilience as they prepare to transition to Year 7, and was the first of a number of rites of passage that they will experience over the coming years at ICHK.

ICHK believes in the transformative power and essential hallmarks of rites of passage and introduces them to students to meaningfully mark turning points in their lives; supporting them as they make the journey from childhood to adulthood.

Secondary students joined the camp, helping their younger peers and sharing stories about secondary school. It was set in the spectacular surroundings of our secondary school, which provides so many unique opportunities for the school’s innovative outdoor education programme.

ICHK Secondary’s Director of Deep Learning, Head of PE & Activities Raymond Chan has written more about the Year 6 journey here.

Director of Technology, Pedagogy and Assessment Ross Parker has also written about the importance of rites of passage, which you can read here.
