Record Breaking Sports Day

A record breaking sports day has been held.

Students enjoyed a day of friendly competition at the Tai Po Sports Ground, with new school records set and personal achievements and growth celebrated.

A range of track and field events were held, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, relay, high jump long jump, shot put and discus, all giving students an opportunity both to celebrate their own successes and also to commend and applaud the successes of others.

Some truly outstanding performances were given, with new records in many events including the 400m, 800m, 1500m and high jump.

There was an amazing house spirit from the students, especially the Year 7s, and the House Captains did a superb job in leading the cheers. For the first time in a number of years, teachers were defeated in the student v teacher tug of war, and a parent team joined the final relay.

As always, the event was about so much more than winning. It was aimed at drawing out and highlighting two values that our school holds to be vital, and which we try to develop in everything we do. Resilience is one – the ability to dig in, to keep going, to bring yourself to the starting line and run your hardest even when you are certain you can’t win.

Community is the other – the feeling, and more importantly, the knowledge that we belong. We belong to something that is bigger than ourselves. We know that our efforts and contributions are valued by everyone around us, valued by teammates and rivals alike, valued because they are heartfelt and freely given.

Thank you to all the parents who supported and offered to help, and to the staff who helped make the day such a success and kept events on schedule in a packed itinerary. Finally, a big thank you to the PE Department who organised the event.
