Parent Book Club
The ICHK parent book club has held its first meeting this year.
A group met to discuss ‘Why Am I Like This? My Brain Isn't Broken and Neither Is Your’s by Gemma Styles.
Attendees had an engaging conversation about the topics covered in the book and the many connections to the ICHK Human Technologies curriculum. The discussion focussed on how some of the ideas on mental health, neurodiversity, social comparison, social media, and the evolution and structure of the human brain are presented to students in HT. Parents discussed how they might implement the theoretical ideas presented in the book in their relationships with their children.
The club has been set up to bring parents together in a relaxed setting to discuss issues of relevance and share thoughts and ideas. It is part of our commitment to community learning, and it is hoped that as well as being a social occasion, it will help parents to navigate some of the challenges they may face.
