Maths Relay
Maths learning moved outside of the classroom for year 7 and 8 students.
Students took part in maths relay competitions on the school courts. Working in teams, they showcased their mathematical thinking by solving a series of problems, associated with our maths curriculum.
Instead of completing traditional assessments in classrooms, the maths relays offer students opportunities to review the learning content in an engaging manner.
The activity was linked with the ‘visualisation’, ‘communication’ and ‘relationships’ themes which are the unifying maths principles and underpin all teaching and learning. Students learn that exploring, analysing, and communicating are at the heart of mathematical thinking.
When students are involved and engaged in their learning, they are more likely to develop a love of learning and a lifelong curiosity about the world around them.
The students enjoyed collaborating on the maths questions, and the activity led to great steps forward in learning.
