ICHK Qualifies for Yale University Competition
A team of ICHK students has qualified for the Tournament of Champions at Yale University.
The team of three achieved success at the prestigious World Scholar Cup Global Run during the summer. They travelled to Seoul, where they competed against thousands of students from across the region.
Out of 165 teams, they placed 17th, picking up medals in team debate, collaborative writing, the scholar’s challenge, and scholar’s bowl. They each also received a number of individual awards. During the five days, the boys faced intense competition, working well as a team and under pressure.
The results mean they qualify for the annual champions event at Yale in November.
The Scholar’s Cup is a prestigious academic competition, which attracts thousands of students from around the world every year.
The boys were accompanied to Seoul by Chinese teachers Vincent Wang and Amanda Luk, after they achieved earlier success at the regional round of the competition in Shenzhen. They had been working hard on their debating skills under Vincent’s guidance.
They are now beginning preparations for the finals and organising weekly team study sessions. As well as the competition itself, the trip will be a fantastic opportunity for them to interact with and learn directly from Yale students and faculty and experience what it’s like to be a student at one of the world’s greatest universities.
We commend the students on their achievements, which pay tribute to all their hard work and we wish them every success at the Tournament of Champions.
