Guy Claxton Book
In 2021, ICHK was included in a book by an eminent professor of education.
Our school was named in “The Future of Teaching and the Myths that Hold it Back”, by Guy Claxton, who is Emeritus Professor at Winchester University and Visiting Professor of Education at King's College London.
Prof Claxton has written more than 30 books on psychology and education, and he coined the term ‘epistemic apprenticeship’, which we have built into the fabric of our school in recent years.
The term underscores the ways in which school provides guidance and role modelling for every aspect of students’ performance. This includes not just academic work but the social, emotional and values-driven dimensions of students’ lives.
In the book, Prof Claxton named ICHK as a school which successfully uses the epistemic apprenticeship, and directed readers to our website.
The apprenticeship we offer has been developed and refined for a number of years, through Human Technologies, Free Learning, Deep Learning, Enrichment & Flow and our outdoor learning programmes.
We are honoured that Prof Claxton has publicly recognised our approaches.
