Another amazing round of Deep Learning has been enjoyed by students.

The programme featured an incredible series of creative study experiences, extending learning beyond the confines of the classroom, and giving students the chance to explore and delve into a feature of the curriculum in more detail.

Our students worked in and out of school, making their way to different parts of the territory for our trailblazing programme – meeting different people and acquiring a huge amount of new knowledge along the way.

During the week students have been learning how to make different kinds of bread, whilst others have been exploring Hong Kong by bike and working on the new school production Lost at Sea.

A group has been solving riddles and mysteries whilst learning about history, geography and culture in Creeped Out in Wan Chai, whilst other groups have been learning about the law courts, costume and set design, film production, handcrafts, water sports and SCUBA diving.

Teams have been exploring food and culture, through the theme of tea and through different cooking and food tasting experiences.

Students have been learning about maths and science, the Tanka or ‘fisher folk’, who are considered to be one of the indiginous people of Hong Kong and war, history, media, outdoor pursuits and peace in Faces of War.

Groups have been learning about woodwork, trade and finance, Zen and sustainability, and creating Escape room experiences.

Others have been learning about Fair Trade, the United Nations and sustainable development goals, and develop their empathy for people with disabilities through carefully selected simulations.

DL5 was the final iteration of what of five Deep Learning experiences for students this year. They have enjoyed a total of 18 days of immersive learning, practical opportunities and real life experiences outside of the confines of the classroom, which we believe challenge many of the established norms of mainstream education.
