Four teams of Year 10 students have completed their practice AYP expedition.
The practice expedition is a chance for the teams to hone their expedition skills, test out equipment and take on increased levels of independence before their final expedition in February.
Two teams explored Sai Country Park, while the other two returned to the Mui Tsz Lam forest village project to continue some of the voluntary work they started in the previous year.
Student-led expeditions such as these are valuable tools for personal growth. As the student overcomes the challenges of hiking with a heavy backpack, trusting their own navigation skills and working as a team, they gain confidence in their ability to manage themselves in an outdoor environment without adult intervention.
The AYP is an internationally recognised award which promotes student independence. Students need to pursue activities in the four categories of skill, physical recreation, service and expedition.
ICHK students complete the award as its goals exactly match our aims to develop the critical skills of collaboration, problem solving and decision-making.
