A popular children’s author has been inspiring our students to develop their own creative writing.

Year 10 and 11 students took part in an interactive workshop about narrative writing from visiting author Siobhan McDermott.

The Mixing Myths workshop allowed them to dive into the legends that inspired Siobhan’s Paper Dragons books, and create their own remixed myths.

The workshop connected to the narrative and descriptive writing aspect of the IGCSE First Language English course.

Students learned about narrative structure, the importance of relatable motivation, and how to develop a reusable framework for creative writing.

Siobhan guided our young writers through a series of activities to improve their writing skills and develop their own engaging stories, She demonstrated how personal experiences and memories can be used to build fantastical new worlds, leaving the students excited about books, reading and writing.
