An ICHK student has been named an ASDAN Champion, from among thousands of learners worldwide.

One of our Year 13 students has been recognised for her commitment to the ASDAN programme, and the confidence and skills she has developed along the way. She joins a select group of learners recognised for their achievements across ASDAN centres around the world.

The award was presented by Amber Stamp-Dunstan, ASDAN Education, Research and Innovation Co-ordinator, who travelled from the UK to visit centres offering the programme, including ICHK.

ASDAN Champions is a learner recognition initiative which celebrates the achievements of one learner every month. Our student was recognised for her hard work and dedication as one of the founding members of the student-led social enterprise Marshy Mellow. Working alongside other ASDAN students, She helped create a range of hand-made products, developing skills in creativity, teamwork, communication, organisation and sales.

The project was a strong example of the practical and collaborative learning at the heart of ASDAN, as students were able to take ownership of an idea, work together towards a common goal and develop skills that extend well beyond the classroom. The enterprise also gave their work a wider social purpose, with all proceeds donated to charity.

Students were also presented with International ASDAN Silver Award certificates.

At ICHK, ASDAN forms part of our commitment to providing a range of pathways. As an inclusive school serving a diverse student population, we seek to provide students with different ways to learn, develop their strengths and prepare for their futures.

The Champion award is a powerful example of what this approach can make possible: learning that extends beyond traditional measures of academic success and gives young people opportunities to discover their strengths, develop confidence and make a positive contribution to the world around them.

It is stories like these that make ICHK the school it is – one that is openly and honestly searching for better ways to help young people learn and attain their ambitions and aspirations.
