Year 8 Big History Hikes
Year 8 students have been taking part in ‘Big History Hikes’.
Each year 8 group spent a day hiking from Ma On Shan to Sai Kung Town, visiting some significant landmarks in Hong Kong history.
The students visited the Ma On Shan Iron Mine Museum, the mineshaft entrance, and unique geological formations that all tell a story of Hong Kong. They then hiked over the Ngong Ping viewpoint and finished in Sai Kung.
Along the way, they were asked to think about how the local landscape has changed over millions of years, the effects that the landscape has had on the local culture, and vice-versa, and how humans have affected the landscape.
The activities have been designed by our outdoor educators, who are providing Year 8s with a wide range of outdoor learning opportunities, linked to different areas of the curriculum.
All the experiences are designed to help to develop the key skills of confidence and resilience which are central to our approaches.
