Transitions Workshops

Special workshops are being staged for next year’s Year 7 cohort, as part of a support programme to welcome them to ICHK.

Next year’s Head of Year 7 Nelly Loi-Fong, along with counsellor and well-being educator Christy Tsui are running a series of workshops at ICHK Primary, JIS and Anfield.

The aim is to reassure the students as they complete their primary education, and help to prepare them for the next step in their educational journeys.

The transition from primary to secondary school is a critical time that is considered to be challenging for students, and generally requires them to move from a familiar school environment to a larger educational setting. It also means that they need to establish new friendships at a time when peer acceptance is extremely important.

The workshops have been specially designed to support the students through this process with confidence and resilience.

Visits have already been made to ICHK Primary and JIS, and at Anfield, former students returned to speak to their younger peers about their experiences at ICHK so far.

The workshops focused on teamwork, communication and confidence.

Students were encouraged to talk about their feelings about the move to Year 7, and they will learn about resilience, and the importance of building and maintaining connections.

The workshops form the first step of our unique Transitions programme, which will continue throughout Year 7.
