In 2020 ICHK became the first school in Hong Kong, and one of only five worldwide to graduate students with a Mastery Transcript.

This was a major development, placing ICHK in a global group of progressive, pioneering schools, dedicated to transforming what educational assessment can capture and express, thereby revolutionizing how universities and employers conceive of the secondary phase.

The ICHK Mastery Transcript is an innovative qualification, issued by the Mastery Transcript Consortium. It promotes a wider view of learning, recognising all attributes, capabilities, passions, achievements and interests, not just academic attainment.

It is the culmination of an approach ICHK has been developing and refining for a decade through innovations to timetable, pedagogy and curriculum.

ICHK joined the MTC in 2018. At that point, the time horizon for issuing Transcripts was estimated at eight to ten years, but the movement gathered pace, with more schools joining, as the urgency of devising the qualification became evident.

Prototyping began earlier than expected, and when IB Diploma examinations were cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, a time of already substantial challenge, ICHK accelerated ideas into reality.

A small team developed the documentary, advisory, and software solutions to support the qualification, and mentor students through the process. Year 13s, disappointed at the cancellation of their exams, were galvanized into sustained and trailblazing activity.

Cutting the original target date by 80% was an incredible achievement, and in June, seven students graduated with an ICHK Mastery Transcript, among the first ever recipients in the world.
