New Preparing for Adulthood Programme

This year marks the exciting launch of a new Preparing for Adulthood Curriculum in the +1 Centre.

During Years 12 and 13, students in the +1 Centre will embark on a journey to learn and practise essential life skills that will prepare them for a successful future beyond ICHK. The programme emphasises engaging, real-life situations and activities that empower students to make informed choices and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

With lessons located in A601, the students will have access to the kitchen space and “living area.” In these spaces, they will learn and practice essential household tasks, from cooking nutritious meals to managing daily chores, cultivating independent living skills that will enable them to live autonomously as they transition into adulthood. Additionally, the programme emphasises the importance of self-advocacy, positive community engagement, and developing skills that will support them in entering the workforce, if appropriate, in the future.

This is a transformative and exciting chapter for the +1 Centre. As the students near the end of their journey at ICHK, it is essential for them to receive the support and guidance they need to make important decisions. This support will help them develop the skills necessary to succeed and thrive as confident, capable young adults.
