New Deep Learning Experiences

Another incredible round of Deep Learning has been enjoyed by students.

They have participated in a series of creative experiences, extending learning beyond the classroom, and giving them the chance to explore and delve into a feature of the curriculum in more detail.

A total of 22 units was on offer with something for all interests, whether the Arts, Humanities, Science or Sport. The core principle is that all units offer opportunities to develop a range of transferable skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, the ability to work under pressure and with good humour, which we believe are at the heart of education.

Students travelled all over the city, meeting different people and gathering a huge amount of knowledge in the process.

They have been learning how to make different kinds of bread, exploring the adventures of Alice in Wonderland and enjoying volleyball training at a special camp in Guangdong.

A group has been solving riddles and mysteries whilst learning about history, geography and culture in Wan Chai,. Some students have been learning about local agriculture and the different stages involved from farm to table and others about the different cultural backgrounds of people who have made Hong Kong their home.

Some students have been learning about the life and work of Bruce Lee whilst others have been involved in an immersive experience, gaining practical skills in sustainable farming, food preparation, and customer service. A Technologies for Cooking group has been discovering the fascinating intersection of science and culinary arts, exploring the principles, techniques, and technology behind traditional and modern food preparation.

Others have been exploring photography and Hong Kong's physical and city landscape; learning about the vibrant and exciting world of printmaking, and working with primary school children.

Another team has been exploring food and culture, through the theme of wheat and through different cooking and food tasting experiences. Others have enjoyed 3D printing, woodwork, urban sketching, candle making and scaling the peaks of Hong Kong.

Students from the +1 Centre have been learning about hospitality, booking systems, property maintenance, and the advertising of a unique holiday experience.

This was the third iteration of what will be a total of four Deep Learning experiences for students this year. Every term they enjoy a period of immersive learning, practical opportunities and real life experiences outside of the confines of the classroom, which we believe challenge many of the established norms of mainstream education.
