Navigating Hong Kong

Year 7 students have been learning how to navigate their way around Hong Kong.

They have been travelling to sites of historical and cultural interest, working out their own routes and developing the key skills of collaboration, perseverance and problem solving, which are central to the ICHK philosophy.

Working in groups, students learned how to safely use Hong Kong's public transport system, and what to do in an emergency when travelling alone.

They made their way to a series of checkpoints, including Wong Tai Sin Temple, Festival Walk. Prince Edward Flower Market, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Ma On Shan Park and Nan Lian Garden.

The ‘Independent Travel’ programme is a key part of the year 7 Transitions curriculum, designed to encourage independence, motivation, enjoyment and depth in learning.

Completion of the activity results in an Independent Travel Badge, which allows students to make their own way to and from meeting and dismissal points for future off-campus trips. It also helps to prepare them for Deep Learning units in the years to come.
