What did you most enjoy about your time at ICHK?

At ICHK, I loved all the opportunities that were offered. On a daily basis, I would get several emails about different courses and activities I could sign up for. I remember the time I was given the opportunity to join a First Aid course and the 24 Hour Hackathon Against Slavery. I signed up for these opportunities as soon as possible! I enjoyed learning how to conduct CPR as well as how people track down live cases of human trafficking.

I also enjoyed the Tuesday after-school activities because they allowed me to cultivate my planting skills and learn cool things like digital art. Honestly, I don’t know where else I would’ve been able to try so many cool and diverse things while in my last two years of secondary school.

How do you feel that teachers at ICHK prepared you for life after school?

All the teachers at ICHK were extremely caring. Each teacher would try their best to ensure that we were coping with the stress of IB, as well prepare us efficiently for our upcoming test/assignments. The teachers would treat us like adults and expect us to be on top of our assignments as well. After only three weeks at university, I feel like the teachers' attitudes toward us during IB, prepared me to handle the attitudes that professors have towards their students.

How do you think that ICHK differs from other schools?

The small classes in ICHK facilitate personal development. When I first entered the school in Y10, it was a lot easier for me to adjust to the school and make friends since I knew everyone in my year. The small classes were great as well, because each student got the attention they needed. I also love how ICHK has such friendly community. ICHK's community vibes makes everyone feel as if they are part of a big family. Everyone looked out for each other and cared about the wellbeing of others.

What were the key skills that you learnt at ICHK?

At ICHK, I learnt so much about having a growth mindset. I feel like having growth mindset makes tackling obstacles so much easier because I know that I can accomplish anything if I work hard at it. At university, there will be a lot of classes that appear very challenging but with a growth mindset, I believe optimism and determination will come naturally and a task that once seemed hard will be remembered as a positive learning experience.

I also remember one of my teachers telling us about how important revising regularly is because it makes remembering things a lot easier. I can still remember the diagram he used to explain why it works, and I think it will definitely remain as an important reminder in my head.

Any significant moments / highlights / achievements in your life that you may like to share, and do you think your time at ICHK helped you prepare for them?

Besides from PE that prepared me for running from one end of the campus to the other in order to get to class on time, I feel like ICHK has helped me learn how to produce the best work I can. I remember the time I was preparing to write my TOK essay and our class had to submit an outline before we could start writing. A couple days later, our TOK teacher was cross with the entire class and expected us to give more fulfilled outlines so that we would have a clearer picture of what our essay would include. After his criticism, I felt pretty bad and was determined to redo my outline and write a great essay. From that day onward, whenever I write an essay outline or start a new project I always think about what that teacher said and I always make sure I plan my work meticulously before execution.
