Learning in Xi'an

A group of CAS Week students spent the week experiencing the spectacular surroundings of historical Xi’an.

Their packed itinerary took in many sites of cultural interest and scenic beauty, including the World Heritage listed Terracotta Warriors – one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of all time.

They had opportunities to make their own clay figurines and learn about the background and history of the site, as well as the different army ranks and the wider theme of centralisation of power.

They visited the Muslim quarter, sampled local cuisine, and spent time at the Da Ming Palace complex, which was the centre of Tang power for several centuries.

Our students learnt about globalisation, trade with the west, social mobility and the imperial court. During a visit to an archaeological discovery centre, they took part in art and craft activities and prepared a presentation demonstrating not only their learning in history but their language skills as they presented fluently in both Chinese and Putonghua.

The visit provided amazing opportunities for cultural, historical and language learning.
