Independent Travel for Students

Year 7 students have been learning how to navigate their way around Hong Kong, as part of a Deep Learning study.

Small groups have spent a day off campus as part of an ‘Independent Travel’ unit.

They travelled to sites of historical and cultural interest across the territory, navigating their own routes and acquiring a huge amount of new knowledge.

The day was intended to enable them to look after themselves when travelling around Hong Kong, and allow them to develop the key skills of collaboration, perseverance and problem solving, which are central to the ICHK philosophy.

All Year 7 students complete the ‘Independent Travel’ unit, working in small groups with a lead teacher, and completing a Flexible Learning planning unit in advance.

Exercises like these help to prepare them for more Deep Learning units in the years to come.

This is a key element of the ICHK curricula and is all designed to encourage independence, motivation, enjoyment and depth in learning.
