Holocaust Memorial Exhibition

A Holocaust memorial exhibition was staged at school.

Humanities students in year 9 and +1 have been exploring the challenges faced by European communities under Adolf Hitler's leadership.

The unit culminated in a task that prompted them to create a memorial, posing the question 'Why should we remember the Holocaust?'

Over the past two weeks, students have dedicated themselves to their projects, creating carefully crafted memorials.

The aim of the project was to re-humanize the victims, moving beyond mere statistics to see them as individuals with families, dreams, and experiences akin to their own. Teachers were impressed with the memorials, which showcased the students' research skills, engagement and empathy, particularly in the face of such a dark chapter in human history.

The project not only allowed students to delve into their understanding of this historical event but also provided a platform for them to express their values, perspectives, and interests within the classroom environment, aligning with the humanities' focus on offering students autonomy and choice in how they showcase their learning.
