Grand Champions Trophy

At the end of 2022, ICHK reclaimed the Grand Champions touch rugby title for the third time in its history.

We took the title with just one point difference from South Island at the HK Schools Winter Touch Championships.

Despite not being able to win a medal, the C Grade Girls took 4th place and that was the one point that we needed to make the difference to take the Grand Champions title.  A great reminder that every contribution, no matter how small, counts.

At ICHK success is not simply measured by medals and trophies. We aim to have as many students as possible representing the school for sport and everyone who competed was reminded that there is so much more to take from taking part in competitive events : lessons in sportsmanship and humility, acceptance, discovering our own limits and the character of those around us; learning about ourselves and how we can improve as individuals.  Learning about each other and how we can improve as a team.

Sport is a great metaphor for life which is why, we believe, it's an invaluable tool for education. At times we may be at a disadvantage when another team has players that are bigger and faster than us.  Disappointing as this, we must accept the circumstances, pick ourselves up and try again.  It's not easy, but that is life.

Head of PE Raymond Chan has written a beautiful article about the important lessons that should be drawn from the event and the way we approach sport at ICHK. You can read the article here.
