DL+ Week
An amazing range of Deep Learning + challenges has been experienced.
Students across the school have stepped out of the classrooms, and pushed outside of their comfort zones.
They have hiked, scaled peaks and taken part in water-sports, organic farming and a range of other outdoor activities.
A group has been experiencing history and culture in Chengdu, enjoying visits to the Dujiangyan Panda Base, Sanxingdui Museum, Dujiangyan irrigation system, UNESCO World Heritage site at Qingcheng Mountain and Leshan to see the largest stone Buddha in the world.
Another group has been hiking the entire length of the Wilson Trail, enjoying its diverse range of landscapes and attractions, including Jardine's Lookout, the iconic Amah Rock, and awe-inspiring vistas.
A team has been busy at school creating new artwork and ‘beautifying’ the campus, whilst first aid training has also been underway.
Other students have been learning about martial arts, coffee roasting and Dungeons and Dragons storytelling whilst our media team has been capturing all the action on film.
A team of students has been designing and making products, whilst exploring the practicalities of setting up and running their own enterprise. Others have been working as primary school assistants.
Years 7s have all experienced a week of outdoor learning including farming, hiking, kayaking and camping. Year 8s have been engaged in a five day outdoor learning camp aimed at developing their resilience and collaboration skills with peers.
Some of our year 9s have been engaged in an adventure week, designed to introduce them to the principles and skills needed to become an ICHK Student Leader. Others have completed a week of self exploration, community, activity and service as part of the More Good programme.
An Explore HK group has been enjoying a taste of everything Hong Kong, including food, culture, nature and heritage.
Upper school students from the Plus 1 Centre have been developing their life skills, learning about budgeting, cooking, and managing themselves independently.
Year 10 outdoor leaders have been working to help Year 7 students to explore nature, step out of their comfort zones, and develop valuable life skills.
DL+ Week was the second iteration of what will be a total of four Deep Learning experiences for students this year. Every term they will enjoy a period of immersive learning, practical opportunities and real life experiences outside of the confines of the classroom, which we believe challenge many of the established norms of mainstream education. DL+ Week is a vital part of our curriculum which builds year on year, and is carefully designed to push students to experience the limits of their capacities in ways that regular school is not able to do.
We thank all the staff members who worked so hard to provide such an amazing range of learning opportunities.
