Chinese Learning

Year 8 students of Chinese have been taking part in a topical debate.

Students of the Kingston Chinese Programme were tasked with preparing for a debate on whether a lockdown should be imposed in Hong Kong.

They worked extremely hard, completing a great deal of preparation work and research and demonstrating a strong team spirit.

The students discussed the impact of a lockdown on residents, their lives and the economy. They also spoke about lockdown experiences in other countries.

The debate was fierce with both sides expressing strong arguments.

Whilst judges awarded overall victory to the team who did not support a lockdown, the best debater was on the opposing team.

It was a very worthwhile exercise, with lots of experience gained, and all debaters are to be commended on their efforts.

The KCP, which was launched in 2019, is being generously funded by our primary partner KIS and provides a truly immersive learning experience in Mandarin.

The programme offers a strong syllabus for students who require a higher level of Chinese, preparing them for the challenges of the Diploma Programme, and it strengthens and enriches our language programme.
