A Hive of Activity in the Library

The library has been a hive of quiet and focused activity both during lesson times and break times as we have welcomed back older students and had the pleasure of meeting new ones.

Year 7 students have visited the library during their English lessons and have completed their library orientation sessions.

Their welcome lesson focused on using the library to further their love of reading and expand their exposure to a range of different genres.

The students enjoyed completing a scavenger hunt to encourage them to explore the library shelves, deciding whether when in the library they are more like a ninja (quiet and focused), a superhero (respectful and responsible) or a secret agent (afterall, secret agents must love reading because they are always reading files marked “Top Secret”), as well as discovering their unique "librarian name" based on their favourite genre and author.

This relaxed and fun session gave the students a chance to meet the library staff and get to know their library as this will be an important part of their school life as they continue on their journey at ICHK.

Once again this year, a range of initiatives will be planned to encourage students to visit the library and explore the world of literature. It is here that they will be introduced to new ideas and cultures, keeping their minds engaged and agile, helping to broaden their attitudes and mindsets, developing greater thinking skills, and a lifelong love of reading and learning.
