Bouldering Routes

Over the past term, Year 7s have been benefiting from the creative talents of a Year 10 bouldering route setter.

Isaac Low has been working hard to set new routes on the ICHK Secondary school bouldering wall.

This is creative work, but also time consuming and physically demanding. Good routes need to challenge our young climbers both physically and mentally, as well as enabling them to learn good climbing techniques.

Isaac’s routes have already been used by Year 7 PE students in their climbing unit.

Bouldering helps to prepare our students for challenges that will gently push them out of their comfort zones and test their resolve.

Using the bouldering wall helps them to develop the ability to face down their fears, and dig deep into reserves of spirit and energy.

This is a mindset they can then transfer to the rest of their lives, whether it is dealing with exams or any of the daily challenges that they will encounter in the world.

Head of PE Raymond Chan said: “We owe a great deal of thanks to Isaac. Our Year 7 classes have already benefited from his service to the community.”
