Nobel Gabasan
Nobel teaches music at ICHK Kindergarten & Primary.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
The idea of sharing what you know is something that is so precious and I can’t deny that passion that I have and my belief that everyone has the right to be musical. This idea has changed my concept to my profession and become a mainstream teacher.
What is your first memory from school?
Happy thoughts. Lots of friends, classmates and good teachers.
What makes a ‘good day’ at school?
When I see happiness in the faces of the children
If I walked into your classroom on a typical afternoon, what would I see going on?
Children moving around, singing along, playing games, basically enjoying themselves. If you focus on me, you will see me hiding my exhaustion and pretending not being tired and still can cope up the the children’s super hyper energy.
What’s the funniest thing a child has ever said to you?
Mr Gabasan, are you married?” and my answer to that is automatically, “Yes, to my Piano”
What are your “trapped on a desert island” books or movies?
The Sound of Music
What is the hardest thing about being a teacher?
Knowing all and remembering the names and faces of all the students, as well as their parents.
What inspires you?
My wonderful experience in the musical world that I want the children to experience as well.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
When I see my influence on the children that they actually absorb what I am feeding them with skills and knowledge; the end result to teaching is when the students apply it and put it in their practice. It’s so wonderful.
What would the students be surprised to find out about you?
That I used to be an all around music performer in my younger years and I was in the entertainment business before going back to teaching in schools.
