Trash is where you can put things you no longer want such as files, photos, emails, movies and applications. Beware if you put applications in trash, though, because you will not be able to use that app. If there is nothing in the trash, it will look empty, and if there is something in the trash, the icon will be filled with paper balls, no matter how many there are in the trash.
How to Move a File In and Out of Trash

To move a content to trash, just drag that icon to trash. You can also right click on the item you want to "throw away" and choose 'move to trash'. The item will move directly to trash. If you want to bring something back from Trash, click on the trash bin-which is in your dock-and you will find all your trashed items in there.

Emptying Trash

A button in the trash folder is 'empty'.You cannot undo this action. If you don't want it to become trash, you can click the trash icon and drag it back to your desktop. If you click secure empty trash it will Delete your trash and make it secure so it is hard to get it back. It is useful when you have some things that you don't want people to find out things like your personal information. Securetrash.png

A word of advice

For a word of advice, never put a hard disk or copies of an app inside because you won't be able to use the file or app (as we've said before), unless you drag it out of the trash.
