Rainstorms & Typhoons

School closure due to bad weather

ICHK will close when the Education Bureau recommends school closures on the basis of bad weather (severe typhoon or very heavy rain). Announcements can be found on:

Typhoons

The typhoon signals are numbered 1, 3, 8, 9 and 10. When typhoon signal No. 1 or 3 is hoisted, parents are advised to listen to radio and television announcements. The school will be closed when typhoon signal No. 8, or higher, is hoisted.

Rainstorm Warnings

The rainstorm signals can be amber, red or black.

Amber: Heavy rain could be localised or there is the potential for heavy rain that may develop into Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal situations. There will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas.

Red: Heavy rain could cause serious road flooding and traffic congestion, and may affect schools and public examinations.

Black: There are major disruptions and inclement weather. The public will be given clear advice on the appropriate actions to take.

Note: Heavy rain can be localised making it unsafe to travel even during an amber storm warning.
