Head of School

Roy White, M.Ed., B.Sc. (Hon) – Canadian | rwhite@ichk.edu.hkRoy has spent over 20 years as a teacher in Hong Kong and Canada. Prior to joining ICHK, Roy spent 20 years in senior teaching and management positions at the English Schools Foundation (ESF) including South Island School, Sha Tin College and West Island School. As well as overall responsibility for the school, Roy will continue to teach the Theory of Knowledge to IB Diploma students.

Deputy Head, Head of Senior School & IB Coordinator

Rick Spadafora, M.Ed, B.A. – Canadian | rspadafora@ichk.edu.hkRick has more than 20 years experience as a teacher and curriculum coordinator and has worked in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. He was formerly IB/MYP/DP Coordinator at Carmel School and DP Coordinator at Victoria Shanghai Academy. He is also an IB English Examiner and IB Diploma English Workshop Leader. In addition, Rick has assisted with the Hong Kong Award for Young People in previous schools.

Deputy Head, Head of Lower School & Ed. Psychologist

Christina Russell M.Ed, B.A – South African | crussell@ichk.edu.hk Heading up our Student Wellbeing and Achievement Team, Christina brings 15 years experience in both mainstream and specialised schools. An educational psychologist and learning support specialist, Christina is also responsible for our Personal, Social and Health Education course (PSHE) and works on professional development in her specialist fields with staff at ICHK and our partner schools.

English

English Teacher & Pastoral Coordinator (Senior School)

Claire Walsh, B.A. (Hons), PGCE – English | cwalsh@ichk.edu.hkClaire has taught Media, Drama and English at schools in the UK, Shanghai and Hong Kong. She has been a GCSE English Examiner and has several years experience teaching IBDP English. She directs school productions and uses her advanced training as an ice-skater with yoga and dance to broaden the extra-curricular programmes offered at ICHK.

English Teacher & EAL Coordinator

Kathryn Lung, BA (Hons), PGCE, Cert.TESOL – British | klung@ichk.edu.hk With extensive experience in teaching English and Drama, Kathryn has since moved on to specialise in the challenges of teaching and learning English as a second language. Kathryn heads our EAL services which support individual students in developing and improving their English language ability.

Humanities  & PSE

Economics /Humanities Teacher

Martin Clarke B.A. (Hons) – English | mclarke@ichk.edu.hk Martin taught at the Chinese International School for more than 15 years, rising to Head of Economics. He has also taught MYP Humanities, IB Economics and the Theory of Knowledge. Martin has extensive experience in preparing students for Model United Nations and HKAYP, and helped to organize last year’s Global Issues Network held in Hong Kong. In addition, he has been responsible for preparing CIS students for entry to prestigious universities overseas.

Humanities & Pastoral Coordinator (Lower School)

Christina Adelwohrer, B.A., Dip. Ed. – Australian | cadelwohrer@ichk.edu.hk Christina has over 15 years experience in teaching and student welfare including Senior Studies Coordinator for more than 650 students in Australia and Student Welfare Coordinator at a large secondary school in Guangdong Province. As a teacher and pastoral leader with knowledge of librarianship, she supports ICHK students in a wide array of disciplines and activities.

Chinese Teacher

Amanda Luk, M.A. (Chinese as Second Language), B.Ed. (Hon) | aluk@ichk.edu.hk Amanda originally trained as an English Teacher and taught in the Shanghai region. After coming to Hong Kong several years ago she began teaching Putongua to corporate clients and students of all ages. Amanda has a natural enthusiasm for teaching Chinese, which is essential to engage Second Language learners.

Leah Tsao, M.Ed. (Chinese as Second Language), Cert (Consecutive | ltsao@ichk.edu.hk Leah original studied at universities in Hong Kong and Taiwan before completing her masters degree in Beijing. She has taught in a number of universities and schools in Hong Kong including the Chinese International School and the Australian International. Along with a major in teaching Chinese as a Second Language her diverse studies at university have also included Accounting and Statistics.

Vicky Wong, M.A. (Chinese Lit. and Language), B.A. (Translation) | vwong@ichk.edu.hk Vicky has taught for a number of years at international schools and brings invaluable experience in teaching the IB MYP Chinese programme. She has taught at the Chinese International School and was a Putonghua Instructor at City University Hong Kong. In addition to her language abilities, she also has taught piano for several years and has been a leader of Girl Guides.  

Japanese Teacher

Kyoko Moriyama B.A., Cert. Ed. – Japanese | kmoriyama@ichk.edu.hk Kyoko has taught for over 7 years at the Japanese International School here in Hong Kong and has been providing Japanese tuition for students of all ages.  While at JIS she shared responsibility for Learning Support and was the school Exchange Coordinator.

Coordinator for Languages

Nicolas Arriaga Agrelo, B.A. (Philology), PGDE, PHD candidate – Spanish | narriaga@ichk.edu.hkNicolas brings a wealth of experience as a teacher, consultant, examiner and teacher trainer. As well as teaching Spanish at the secondary school level, he has also taught Spanish and Hispanic Culture in several universities in Spain, Mainland China and Hong Kong. Nicolas brings to the school a wide liguistic background with knowledge of Chinese, Italian, Portuguese, Latin and Greek.

Performing and Visual Arts

Coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts

Jennifer Goldthorpe M.A., PGCE – English | jgoldthorpe@ichk.edu.hk Jennifer attended the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the Central School of Speech and Drama. She was previously the Head of Performing Arts at one of the UK’s leading schools. She believes in the value of drama across the curriculum and has directed a large number of plays and musicals in partnership with other subject teachers.

Art and Design Teacher

Chris Cook M.A., M.Sc. – Hong Kong | ccook@ichk.edu.hk Chris originally studied Art at De Montfort University, Leicester and then completed her graduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools of Art and Imperial College in London.   She has provided training courses for Art teachers in Hong Kong and worked in schools and colleges both in the UK and here in Hong Kong.

Media/Film & Physical Theatre Teacher

Liam Greenall B.A. (First), PGDE.  – British | lgreenall@ichk.edu.hk Liam has devised, choreographed, directed and project-managed theatre arts-based collaborative projects internationally including in South Korea, Liverpool and Tokyo. He has been a teacher of Performing Arts in a number of schools in England, Korea and Hong Kong and has also supported students in the Trinity Guildhall Examinations in Speech and Drama.

Media Teacher & ICT Coordinator

Ross Parker, Master of Teaching, B.Sc. (Hons) – English | rparker@ichk.edu.hk Ross brings to ICHK a broad knowledge of technology and its impact on the classroom and beyond. He has a passion for introducing students to the ever-developing role of technology in relation to local and global issues. Previously Ross was an advisor and training course developer for the English Schools Foundation. Along with teaching ICT, Ross will support ICHK students in environmental activities, an area in which he has extensive experience.

Mathematics & Sciences

Coordinator for Science & Mathematics

Alan Lo B.Sc., PGDE – Australian | alo@ichk.edu.hk After spending 20 years teaching in Australia, Alan’s most recent position was with the Singapore International School in Hong Kong. He has worked as a pedagogical mentor to younger colleagues and was nominated for Western Australia’s Premier Teacher Award in 2006. He has worked with gifted students and students with learning difficulties. He is also a TAFE trainer and assessor for Electronics.

Mathematics Teacher

Jimmy Lam, B.Sc. (Hon), B.Ed. M.Ed. – Canadian | jlam@ichk.edu.hk Jimmy studied at Waterloo University, the most highly respected of Canada’s universities for Mathematics and Engineering, and recently completed the MEd programme at the University of Bristol. He joins ICHK from the Creative Secondary School where he gained experience teaching mathematics using the MYP’s approach to inquiry-based learning. Prior to this, he taught at the Korean International School, where among his extra-curricular activities, he was responsible for the school’s Year Book.

Tina Kramer, B.Sc. – American | tkramer@ichk.edu.hk After completing her studies in the US, Tina worked in a number of schools with an emphasis on supporting students with learning needs. She joins ICHK from the Japanese International School, where she developed her knowledge and experience of teaching using an inquiry-based approach via the IB PYP. She has also received training in teaching students with autism.

Chemistry Teacher & Coordinator for Teaching and Learning

Alexandra Lynch M.Ed., B.Sc. (Hon) – British | alynch@ichk.edu.hk Alex studied at Bath and Oxford Universities before completing her Masters Degree in Australia. While teaching at the Chinese International School she held a number of leadership roles including CAS Coordinator and Gifted & Talented Coordinator for the school, and for MYP in the Science Department.  In addition to Hong Kong, she has also taught in Singapore, Cairo and the U.K., and is an examiner for both IBDP Chemistry and for MYP Science. Here at ICHK, Alex will be leading our developments in inquiry-based learning.

Physical Education

PE Teacher & Activities Coordinator

Raymond Chan B.A. (Hons), PGCE – English | rchan@ichk.edu.hk Raymond speaks English, French, Putonghua and Cantonese and joins us from a prestigious school in the UK. He is a rock climbing instructor, rugby coach and Duke of Edinburgh Award Assessor. He has taught English, Humanities, PE and was an examiner for GCSE Religious Studies and A- Level Ethics. Raymond teaches Year 7 PE lessons in Putonghua.

PE Teacher, Teacher-Librarian, CAS Week Coordinator

Ben Blain M.Ed. (Sports Science), TEFL, B.A. (Communications), PGD – Australian| bblain@ichk.edu.hk Ben held previous positions in Hong Kong as the information officer/librarian for the European Bank, British Medical Association and Ernest & Young (where he established their library). He has since worked for a number of international schools here in Hong Kong including those within the English Schools Foundation.  His master’s degree was focused on Outdoor Education and Sports Medicine. He is a Scout Leader and is able to act as an instructor for the HKAYP.
